A truly great city is one where every resident – from students and young workers to families, retirees, and our most vulnerable neighbours – has the opportunity to thrive and live with dignity.

A core component of building a city for everyone is ensuring residents can actually move through it. Reliable, accessible transit – just like roads and bike paths – is essential for a connected community.

Peterborough is home to one of the largest seniors populations in Ontario. Their knowledge, experience, and wisdom is critical to the success of our community. We need to ensure the development of new and upgraded municipal infrastructure incorporates age-friendly designs.

We need practical leadership that strengthens our social infrastructure, expands our transit connectivity, and ensures Peterborough is a community that loves its residents back.

That commitment to inclusion, accessibility, and community care defines my vision for a PTBO For All.

Our Strategic Approach

To achieve these goals, our approach will be guided by four core strategies:

  • We will reduce barriers to services like transit so everyone, regardless of income, age, ability, or neighbourhood, has an opportunity to thrive.
  • We will encourage strong neighbourhoods, with engaged and empowered residents as the foundation of our community.
  • We will protect our local environment for use by all our residents, preserve our green spaces, and take meaningful steps to reduce our carbon footprint.
  • We will embrace a city where seniors can remain active, independent, connected and valued, and champion policies that support aging in place, improve access to services and transportation, and ensure seniors’ voices help shape the future of our community.

Our Core Policies

Review & Improve Transit Operations

We will review operations of Peterborough transit with an aim of expanding frequency, access and reliability, incorporating the lived experience of riders.

Wraparound Services for Senior Living

Working with partners and other governments, we will create a pilot well being project that provides wrap around services for assisted senior living accommodations so that lessons learned can be applied to multiple facilities in Peterborough.

Neighbourhood Partnership Initiative

We will launch and seek partnerships for a Neighbourhood Partnership Initiative that gives residents the tools, modest funding and municipal support to improve and care for the public spaces they value most—from community gardens and playgrounds to outdoor rinks, pollinator gardens and gathering places like block parties.

Additional Community Policies
  • Ensure the development of new or upgraded municipal infrastructure incorporates age and accessible friendly designs.
  • Champion and apply a climate action lens prepardness toolkit to major municipal policies, projects and capital investments to ensure environmental impacts and climate mitigation are strongly considered alongside cost, service, and community outcomes.
